Character Analysis

Jamie –  Jamie is a teenage girl who is full of facts and historical knowledge passed down to her by her grandmother. Jamie is hesitant to take risks and generally obeys the rules, however her curiosity sometimes allows her to cross that line. Jamie lives with her mother and grandmother in Lewisburg, PA. The second most important thing to her besides her family is her best friend Cam. They bring out the best in each other. Cam takes her on adventures and pushes her outside of her comfort zone. Jamie is there to pick up the pieces when Cam is in trouble or distress. Jamie knows the importance of ancestry and honoring the past. This knowledge comes out in a sassy educational tone. Jamie is content with life the way it is because it is the only way she knows. She wouldn’t dare take on an unknown fate of challenge, so her life stays moderately still.

Cam – Cam is a teenage girl who is always looking for an adventure. Cam doesn’t think before she acts. Upon breaking into an abandoned theatre Cam is quick to touch things, open boxes, etc. Cam lives life mostly alone, besides hanging out with her best friend Jamie. Cam learns a lot from Jamie but gets slightly jealous when Jamie talks about her grandmother. Cam doesn’t have much of a family at home, just her mom. Due to this fact, at the start of the play, Cam is not aware of the importance of ancestry or historical appreciation, but when Jamie begins to teach her about theatre she discovers her sense of creativity and passion for the performing arts. Despite Cam’s troubled past, exploring and learning about the theatre gives Cam optimism for the future. It won’t be the last time that Cam visits this theatre.
